Commission on School Accreditation Determines State of Emergency Exists in Holmes County School District

NEWS RELEASE 

For Immediate Release: August 2, 2021

JACKSON, Miss. – The Commission on School Accreditation determined today an extreme emergency exists in the Holmes County Consolidated School District (HCCSD) that jeopardizes the safety, security, and educational interests of the children enrolled in the schools in the district. As a result, the Mississippi State Board of Education will consider on August 3 whether to ask Gov. Tate Reeves to declare a state of emergency in the district.

MDE to Temporarily Relocate Offices

JACKSON, Miss – Due to repeated water leaks and flooding in the Central High School Building (CHS), the Mississippi Department of Education (MDE) will relocate employees who work in CHS in mid-August.  The move is necessary because the Department of Finance and Administration needs to make extensive repairs to the building. 

State Board of Education Sets Policies to Resume In-Person Schooling as Primary Teaching Mode

JACKSON, Miss. – The Mississippi State Board of Education (SBE) passed two policies that call for all school districts to resume in-person instruction as the primary mode of teaching starting in the 2021-22 school year. The policies set requirements for districts that choose to offer a virtual learning option to individual students and establish standards for virtual learning days.

Interim Superintendent Appointed to Noxubee County District of Transformation

NEWS RELEASE

JACKSON, Miss. – The Mississippi Department of Education (MDE) has appointed chief of staff Dr. Washington Cole IV as interim superintendent of Noxubee County School District, which became a District of Transformation in 2018. He replaces Rodriguez Broadnax, who is leaving the district June 30 to lead a Michigan school district.
