JACKSON, Miss. – The Mississippi Department of Education (MDE) has designated seven elementary schools as Mississippi Emerging Science of Reading Schools (SoR) for the 2022-2023 school year.
This recognition is for schools that have trained teachers in the science of reading, exemplified a change of instructional practices, and embodied a school culture that focuses on building skillful, strong readers in kindergarten through third grade.

JACKSON, Miss. – The Mississippi Department of Education (MDE) announced today the addition of 52 highly regarded education professionals from across the state to serve on the Mississippi Teacher Advisory Council (MTAC) for the 2022-23 school year.
The MTAC, formed in 2016, now includes 309 educators representing schools in urban and rural settings and an array of content areas, including general education, arts, special education and career and technical education.

State Board of Education Selects Search Firm for the State Superintendent

JACKSON, Miss. – The Mississippi Board of Education (SBE) today selected the search firm, McPherson & Jacobson, LLC, to lead the search for the next state superintendent of education.
The firm will conduct a national search beginning July 1 for applicants who meet SBE requirements. The SBE anticipates interviewing the top candidates in October. The new superintendent is expected to start in the position in January 2023.
MDE temporarily relocating offices within Jackson due to building repairs

JACKSON, Miss. – Mississippi Department of Education offices located at the Central High School (CHS) building, 359 N. West St., in downtown Jackson, will temporarily relocate to alternate work locations beginning Monday, June 27, due to building repairs.
The Mississippi Department of Finance and Administration estimates interior renovations and roof repairs to CHS will take at least six months to complete.
