MDE Joins Twitter, Encourages Communities to Follow Public Education News

October 25, 2012

JACKSON, Miss. – The Mississippi Department of Education (MDE) announced today that it has joined Twitter in an effort to provide the latest news and information concerning public education as the state transitions to more rigorous standards in teaching and learning.

Anyone interested in staying informed about developments in Mississippi’s accountability model, Mississippi Board of Education (MBE) decisions, and Common Core State Standards is encouraged to follow the MDE handle: @MissDeptEd. Dr. Lynn House, interim superintendent of education, said communicating directly with all of the department’s stakeholders is essential to the ongoing conversations that need to take place as the Board and MDE work toward improving educational opportunities for all children.

“The Twitter account is one example of how the department plans to increase communication about the changes that will impact every school and community in the state,” House said. “We look forward to sharing information with parents, teachers, school and district administrators, as well as state and local officials, as we progress toward a public school system that seeks to challenge and to prepare children for college or career.”
