Update Regarding Educator Licensure Walk-in Service

EFFECTIVE MONDAY, AUGUST 13, 2018
THE DIVISION OF EDUCATOR LICENSURE NO LONGER OFFERS LICENSURE APPLICATION DROP-OFF/WALK-IN SERVICE.

COMPLETE APPLICATION PACKETS MUST BE SUBMITTED VIA POSTAL MAIL USING THE FOLLOWING MAILING ADDRESS:

APPLICANTS MAY ALSO COMPLETE THE ONLINE LICENSURE APPLICATION THAT IS AVAILABLE THROUGH THE EDUCATOR LICENSURE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM (ELMS). IF THE ONLINE APPLICATION IS USED, ALL SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS ARE STILL REQUIRED TO BE SUBMITTED VIA POSTAL MAIL.

Please note: Official transcripts may be submitted directly from your institution of higher education using e-script and official test score results for Mississippi required licensure tests that are less than ten (10) years old, may be submitted electronically directly from the administering testing company.

If you have recently submitted a complete licensure application packet, please allow approximately 10 business days from the date the application is received, for review and processing. If it has been less than 10 business days, please contact us with any inquiries after that time.

The most up to date information related to the status of your application may be obtained through the Educator Licensure Management System (ELMS) via your ELMS account. When your application request has been reviewed and processed, you will receive an email notification indicating that either the license has been issued or additional documentation is needed for processing. Some applicants have experienced trouble receiving emails sent from our office to their general inbox, therefore, we ask that you please be sure to check your Spam or Junk folders.

When calling the Division of Educator Licensure to speak with a member of the Licensure Team, please note that the average hold time is between four (4) to seven (7) minutes. Please do not hold the line for no longer than ten (10) minutes at which time you should try your call again later. As always, we value and appreciate the opportunity to serve you.

 

The mission of the Office of Educator Licensure is to assist all Mississippi public school educators and prospective educators to obtain and maintain standard certification and licensure and to implement licensure guidelines set by the Certification Commission and State Board of Education. Prospective educators in Mississippi can obtain certification through:

  • traditional teacher and administrator education programs

  • alternative teacher and administrator certification programs

  • reciprocity

Licensure Application Status

The Office of Educator Licensure (OEL) works diligently to review and process all licensure requests submitted to the office. Due to the high volume of requests this time of year, we appreciate your patience as we work to respond to your inquires. To help with the process, if you would like for someone to contact you within 48 hours, please e-mail us your request to this address teachersupport@mdek12.org . Please include your Educator ID number instead of your Social Security Number on all communications to maintain the security of your information.

Please note that you may view the tests and/or the names of documents received by logging into the Mississippi Educator Licensure Management System (ELMS) and clicking on “Images” from the “Educator Options” Menu on the left of your credentials screen. After reviewing documentation received, you will receive an e-mail (if applicable) of additional documentation that may be needed or that your license has been issued.
