Lockard Elementary to be Recognized as a Top Performer in Mississippi

May 19, 2014

WHO: Mississippi Department of Education’s Special Education Advisory Panel

WHAT: The advisory panel will honor Lockard Elementary School for expanding and improving its inclusion efforts among children with disabilities. Inclusion efforts place students with special needs in classrooms with their typically developing peers.

WHEN: Tuesday, May 20 at 2 p.m.

WHERE: Lockard Elementary, 302 College Avenue, Indianola

WHY: Lockard introduced a new version of its inclusion program at the beginning of this school year. It expanded access and offerings to students and saw dramatically-improved parental involvement, which resulted in the vast majority of its inclusion classrooms outscoring the grade-level results in almost every grade taught at the school.

State and school administrators, teachers and parents involved with the program will be in attendance at the event and available for interviews. An inclusion classroom will also be available for video and photography.
