Commission on School Accreditation votes against recommending state of emergency be declared in Greenwood School District

July 31, 2014

JACKSON, Miss. – The Commission on School Accreditation voted today against recommending that a state of emergency be declared in the Greenwood School District.

The Commission decided to give the district until Oct. 15, 2014, to correct all of the deficiencies found in the Mississippi Department of Education’s audit report. The MDE and the Mississippi School Board Association will provide the district with technical assistance in the areas that need correction before Oct. 15. After the Oct. 15 deadline, the MDE is to conduct a full investigative audit of the district.

The Commission’s decision followed a presentation from the MDE of its audit report findings and a response from Greenwood School District representatives.
