State Teacher of the Year, Administrator of the Year Finalists Announced

CLINTON, Miss. – The Mississippi Department of Education (MDE) and the Mississippi Teacher Center announced today the finalists for the 2016 Administrator of the Year and the 2016 Teacher of the Year.

The Mississippi Administrator of the Year program honors an administrator who demonstrates superior ability to inspire teachers, employs exemplary leadership practices and participates as an active member of the community. The recipient will receive a $5,000 stipend and shares expertise through various presentations and activities for the improvement of education in the state.

Likewise, the Mississippi Teacher of the Year program recognizes exemplary teachers in the state. The award recipient will be asked to share expertise through various presentations and activities for the improvement of education. The recipient also will represent Mississippi in the National Teacher of the Year competition.

The recipients will be announced April 14 at 11 a.m. at the Jackson Marriott.

Administrator of the Year Finalists

  • Corlis Curry - Tupelo Public School District, Principal of Lawhon Elementary School
  • Kimberly Davenport - Hinds County School District, Principal of Main Street RESTART Center
  • Robert Sanders - Simpson County School District, Principal of Mendenhall High School
  • Robert Williams - Hattiesburg Public School District, Principal of N. R. Burger Middle School 

Teacher of the Year Finalists

  • Brigit Burt, Chickasaw County School District, Houlka Attendance Center, 6th Grade Reading and Language Arts
  • Patricia Kirkpatrick, Cleveland School District, Margaret Green Junior High School, 8th Grade U. S. History
  • Vicki Adcock, Lauderdale County School District, Clarkdale Middle School, 6th and 7th Grade Language Arts and Reading
  • Jodi Leigh McKenzie, Pascagoula-Gautier School District, Gautier High School, English 9-12
