MDE is excited to launch the AI for Instruction Pilot—a free program designed to help teachers use generative AI tools to enhance classroom instruction! This pilot will help educators use Google’s Gemini and NotebookLM to plan and personalize lessons, design engaging learning activities, and create effective assessments for students. It will focus on three content areas and grade levels: 4th grade science, middle school English Language Arts, and U.S. History. Selected teachers will participate in professional development on AI integration and practical classroom applications, along with ongoing monthly support to help them continue improving their skills. To learn more, watch our brief introductory video. School administrators interested in participating can complete the AI for Instruction Pilot application.
Applications are due September 19. Pilot districts will be announced on September 29.

Artificial Intelligence: Guidance for K-12 Classrooms
This resource is designed to provide procedural guidance and instructional strategies to district leaders, school leaders, and classroom teachers on how to appropriately use artificial intelligence (AI) in schools. The guide starts with a definition of AI and explores its impact on the classroom. It also highlights how students, teachers, and administrators can leverage AI, and what factors should be taken into consideration when developing a policy for AI use.
Webinar: The MDE hosted a webinar on April 17, 2024 to provide an overview of the guidance document. During this webinar, Chris Chism, Superintendent of Pearl School District, joined us as a special guest to share some exciting ways he is already harnessing the power of AI to support productivity.
